Opportunity overview

The Premier's Anzac Prize is an annual award for students and teachers that offers an exciting opportunity to delve further into the understanding of the Anzac Legacy. It is proudly presented in partnership with RSL Queensland and with the support of State Library of Queensland and Queensland Museum.

Students from all regions and educational sectors in Queensland have the opportunity to develop their research skills, attend workshops and participate in community events in preparation for a 2-week tour to Europe to visit historical sites and key World War I (WWI) memorials. The tour culminates with attendance at the nationally televised Anzac Dawn Service near Villers-Bretonneux on the Western Front—a site where Australian service people sacrificed so much during WWI.

Students

The Premier's Anzac Prize is a unique, life-changing opportunity for all Queensland high school students to engage with the Anzac tradition first-hand and explore how the Anzac Legacy relates to modern Australian life.

Prize recipients build their knowledge and understanding of the Anzac Spirit and its relevance to modern Australian and global contexts. In preparation for the overseas trip, recipients are supported in the development of research skills and preparation of commemorations of their chosen service people. They work with their local communities and engage in fundraising projects. All their research comes to life over the 2-week tour to Europe.

Chaperones

Teacher chaperones, as recipients of the Prize, gain valuable opportunities to deepen their intercultural understanding, expand global competencies, and strengthen their knowledge of Australian and world history.

They return with fresh perspectives that enrich classroom practice and elevate teaching across Queensland schools. At the same time, chaperones play a pivotal role throughout the program and tour, providing consistent guidance and support to students.
